Mobile analytics company comScore has just released its monthly report on U.S. smartphone market share, and as expected Android is still on top. Keeping in mind that these numbers represent market share as of October, 2013, let's jump into the analysis.
As you would expect, Android is on top of the U.S. market with 52.2 percent of devices, up 0.4 percent from three months previous. Apple makes up much of the rest with 40.6 percent, also up slightly in the period. BlackBerry and Microsoft naturally round out the other meaningful OS market shares in the states.
In terms of manufacturers, it's the Samsung and Apple show yet again. Since no other manufacturers make phones with Apple's iOS, of course it has the largest single manufacturer market share at the same 40.6 percent of the market. Following up a somewhat-close second place is Samsung, with 25.4 percent of the market, up 1.3 percent. Motorola picked up a miniscule gain to 7 percent market share, and both HTC and LG lost share to dip under Motorola.
At this point it seems it'll take something monumental to get a single manufacturer to move any considerable amount in a three-month period — maybe things will mix up a bit more around the holidays.

Boxie is a Dropbox client for iPhone that provides almost all the functionality that the Dropbox website itself provides. Aside from having a refreshing and beautiful interface, it comes complete with notifications for file system events, revision change options, and more.
The native Dropbox for iPhone app was recently updated with support for iOS 7 but for some of us, it's still lacking a lot of the functionality and tools we'd like. Boxie aims to close that gap by bringing a refreshing interface and design paired with lots of useful features.
Boxie has built-in support for background app refreshing in iOS 7 which means you can optionally be notified of changes made to your Dropbox or new files added. You can also view change revisions and revert to a previous file type natively from the app.
Compared to the native Dropbox app for iOS, Boxie's menu system is more robust and I've found that getting to options I want can be done in fewer taps. Swipe on an item to reveal an action menu that lets you manipulate, share, and manage the selected files. You can perform these actions on both individual files and entire folders. I particularly like that I can copy all the images easily inside a folder in two taps. That's incredibly convenient.
Up until now, I've been pretty happy with the native Dropbox for iOS client. After using Boxie on my iPhone for a good while, there's no way I could go back. I find it much more intuitive and it just fits my style better. I can't wait to see the iPad version.

Android app shoppers have long had the luxury of watching video trailers on Google Play, but their iOS counterparts have had to be content with static images on the App Store. Apple's portal just got livelier, though, as MacStories has noticed what may be the first App Store video clip. UK residents who visit the "featured" section of the store now see a trailer for Clumsy Ninja alongside the usual promo graphics and app icons. This isn't necessarily a sign of things to come -- other regions don't see the trailer just yet, and it's not present within Clumsy Ninja's app page. With that said, we won't be shocked if App Store sizzle reels become commonplace.

Back in September, Adobe announced its $10 monthly Photoshop Photography Program subscription as a secondary option to a full-blown Creative Cloud membership. Initially, users had to own CS3 or later to be eligible, but now the creative software outfit has opened up the offer to everyone. That's right, ten bucks per month will net you Photoshop CC, Lightroom 5, a Behance membership with ProSite access and 20GB of cloud storage. The catch? You'll still have to commit to a yearly agreement that's billed monthly (just like regular ol' CC) and decide whether or not to take the plunge before the offer runs out on December 2nd. The good news is that this appears to be the permanent price tag instead of an introductory offer to attract more users before a rate hike.

Following the recent FAA rulings in the U.S. the European equivalent, the EASA, has also now approved the use of personal electronic devices for all stages of flight. Providing everything is turned into airplane mode during travel, you'll be able to use devices such as your Android smartphones and tablets gate-to-gate once airlines have adopted it.
Bulkier items such as laptops will need to be stowed during taxiing, takeoff and landing, but smaller devices can remain in your hand and in use. The guidelines are expected to be published by the end of November, and here's hoping the European airlines adopt them with speed afterwards.
